Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 104144
Misspelling
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:33:29 UTC
On the "Why OpenOffice.org?" page at http://why.openoffice.org/, in the last section titled "and it's free", there are multiple misspellings of the word "license", which has been misspelled as "licence". Now, if I were thinking of using OO.o as my office suite, I would see that and think that it must not have a spell cecker, so why bother? Seriously, it looks very, very, VERY bad to have a misspelled word on a website, let alone on this one. Please correct this right away.

As an non native english speaker I learned at school that "license" is American English, "licence" is British English. I'm not sure whether British or American English has been defined as official language, reassign to louis.
wtf? it might have been the queen's English two hundred years ago, but we run things now.
licence noun British English: do not confuse licence with license. Licence is a noun which means 'a permit to do something' (a driving licence), whereas license is a verb meaning 'give a permit to someone: allow something' (the loggers are licensed to cut mahogany trees). In American English, both the noun and the verb are spelled license.
On <http://download.openoffice.org/index.html> you see "License (LGPL v3)", nd that spelling should be used on <http://why.openoffice.org/> I believe that misspelling is a minor problem, more serious are missing contact information and Sitemap, deviant page design, ...
